Most brands have cheaper models. Golf stores like Golf Galaxy or Golfsmith will also often have some on close out. I think even Wal-mart and K-Mart may sell some.

Yes, I personally think they are very necessary, especially because I play where it rains a fair amount. I was at Dick’s Sporting Goods yesterday and they had some nice shoes for around $50, and they can last at least 2 season of golf, depending on how much you play.
