What is appropriate golf attire?
April 11th, 2010 | by admin |I am a young professional and have a company sponsored golf outing at a master’s course in Texas. The course is supposed to be pretty nice, but I haven’t heard anything about a dress code.
What is the most casual thing I can wear without looking trashy (jean shorts vs. canvas shorts…collared shirt vs. solid ringer teeshirt)…? Also, I don’t have (nor can afford) golf shoes. Should I wear sandals or steve madden style tennis shoes?
The course is Bear Creek Golf World, and I live in the Woodlands. It is an Arnold Palmer owned course, but I wasn’t able to find an official dress code online.
Can anyone recommend the best stores to cheaply buy clothes?
Thanks to everyone whose answered so far…you’ve all been really helpful.

Your best polo shirt and shorts. Its good to have shorts with cargo pockets in case you need to hold a cigar and lighter.
Take a look at a PGA event, and dress like Tiger.
Not Sergio Garcia.
Some courses require golf shoes with soft spikes. Most even have web-sites with dress codes.

Most decent courses have a simple dress code….and it’s usually this:
1) Bermuda-length shorts - NO DENIM!
2) Collared shirts are usually required - no tee-shirts or tank-tops.
3) Soft-spike shoes only. If the choice is between sandals and tennis shoes - I’d go with tennis shoes for support and stability.
If you wear non-denim shorts, a golf-style collared shirt and tennis shoes….you should be fine. Hit ‘em straight.
P.S. You can pick up golf shoes - especially last year’s models - at most pro-shops (shoes take up a lot of stock space) pretty cheaply nowadays. NICE ones for $40 - 50.00. You don’t have to spend a fortune. Having spikes really does keep you from slipping on grass!

No Jeans or cut-offs, collared Knit pull-over shirt. Tennis shoes are fine, don’t buy golf shoes just for that.

Every course has a different dress code, some you have to be really dressed up and some you can wear blue jeans. I would say that you should wear tennis shoes (although you can buy some cheap golf shoes at a sporting goods store), collared shirt, and kahki pants that aren’t real baggy or that don’t have many bulging pockets. You can wear a baseball type hat if you want to.
