I’m 15 years old, have my working papers but can’t find a place to hire me…I’ve had them for a year and applied to 7 or 8 different places trying to get a job and have been told that I’m too young by all of them. I’m going to an open interview with my friend tomorrow for Famous Footwear (btw, anyone know if you have to be 16?) I won’t turn 16 till next June and really need the money. I need a way to make about 80-95 dollars a month. I want to get back into dance but the lessons are 80 dollars a month for two classes. I can’t ask my parents for the money because they already spend over 800 dollars for me so that I can be in my community theatre. I know that it’s stretching them thing because my brother does golf as well and takes private lessons. I want to be able to take lessons without having my parents worrying about how they’re going to pay, and actually have them LET me take them. I babysit, but I don’t get that much money because my neighbors never go out anymore…Thanks
Note: My brothers golf lessons and golfing are about the same for my Theatre classes, the dance lessons are something extra. Is there any way to earn money around my neighborhood? my brother mows lawns…so that’s out…

In this economy, you’re probalby out of Luck. Adults are having trouble finding low end jobs like teenagers used to get, you’re not going to find a real job easily.

Ask your parents to ask friends of theirs. Connections are always good. also go to places like a local grocery store, but most places these days insist on being 18, and the occasional 16.

You could also try to get a job at the dance studio.

Another thought: If your parents are paying for your bother’s golf lessons, they should pay the same amount for your dance lessons. There is no reason that you should be shortchanged because your brother is expensive. Even if you don’t think they have the money, talk to them anyway and they might make him pay part of his money too, and they can split what they do have between the two of you.
