Jeff Seward asked:

Many golfers don’t give much thought to their golf shoes. After all, they’re just footwear, right? No, that’s wrong. Actually, your golf shoes can make the difference between a good golf swing and a great golf swing. You will also want to pick a golf shoe that is healthy for you and your feet. I bet you’ve never really thought about how to pick a healthy golf shoe. Neither have I - until now.

First and foremost, take your time when shopping for golf shoes. Put them on and walk around in them to make sure they feel good on your feet and that you can move about without any restraints or discomfort.

Feet do expand, so when you go to shop for your golf shoes, do so after walking for about 20 minutes or so. It’s for this reason specifically that it’s better to shop for golf shoes - or any shoes for that matter - in the afternoon rather than in the morning.

When you shop for your golf shoes, you should wear the style of socks that you would normally wear on the golf course. This way, you will know you will be comfortable on the golf course while wearing your golf shoes and not have to worry about discomfort during your backswing.

There are all types of golf shoes available these days. No longer are you restricted to oxford-style. Manufacturers are now making golf sandals, golf boots, and even golf shoes that really resemble tennis shoes. The cleats on these types of shoes can be quite different so be sure that when you buy a golf shoe, it’s going to give you the results that you are looking for.

Depending on your budget, you will be able to find golf shoes in all sorts of different price ranges. The general rule of thumb is that you should buy the best pair of golf shoes that you can possibly afford. If you go for the cheapest pair, you will probably have to replace them within a short period of time. However, if you can afford the extra twenty dollars, go ahead and upgrade just a bit and have them last just a bit longer.

Golf shoes may not be first and foremost on your mind when you are thinking about what you need to be a good golfer, but the right pair of golf shoes can really make a difference in your golf game. You want to be comfortable, you want to have stability, but most of all, you want to look good - now don’t you? Seriously, though, find a good pair of golf shoes and then put them to use on the links. Then see how much they make a difference when you are swinging your club on the first tee!

Saddle shoes are also considered as formal leather footwear. There are various types for different lifestyles.

Saddle shoes are two-toned formal leather footwear. These are white shoes with a colored saddle across the center of the shoe. The color is usually white and black. The toe and back of it are white. It can be worn by both men and women, in different styles. It ranges from ultra high platforms to golf cleats.

This type of shoes has these features:

- Vamp

- Instep

- Throat

- eyelets and

- Tongues are black in color.

The vamp and in-step are shaped like a saddle in the center. A matching black strip runs on the back of the shoe heel. Some saddle shoes have a buckle on top of the black strip. These saddle shoes’ sole consists of different “low heeled” sole that has a coral coloration. Saddle shoe manufacturers have made saddle shoes in different color combinations and designs. Saddle shoes are versatile that it can match any wardrobe.

Saddle shoes were first sold in1906. They were first worn by boys. Girls started wearing them during the 1920s. But during the 50s, these shoes were usually worn by women with:

• poodle skirt

• white blouse and

• white cuffed ankle socks

The clothing styles then were:

- tight fitting blouses

- pirate pants

- pedal pushers

- jeans

- petticoats

- Peter Pan collared blouse

- Twin sweater shirt

- Cinched belt

- Pleated skirts and others

Saddle shoes are considered as sporty shoes. They are worn like loafers before sneakers became trendy footwear. They are not worn on formal occasions by boys. They can be worn on informal occasions, by older boys and matching them with sport jackets

Men’s saddle shoes or men’s saddle oxfords were known even during the post-war era. This happened when they were:

- Jiving

- dancing jitterbug and

- listening to the vinyl album of Elvis Presley

At that time, the market demanded men’s saddle shoes, which later on created many men’s two-toned colored saddle shoes.

Saddle shoes are remarkable because they can be worn by boys of all ages. Ordinarily, older boys do not wear styles worn by younger boys. Saddle shoes appear to have been suitable to all age groups.

Saddle shoes for men are still very much available in the market. Today, men’s variety saddle shoes come in different styles. There are even athletic men’s variety saddle shoes for very active individuals. For the golf enthusiasts, there are “golf saddle” shoes. Hence, waterproof men’s variety saddle shoes are out in the market as well. For those who prefer the casual variety, saddle oxfords are recommendable. These are popular amongst executives.

At current, men wear saddle shoes for golf and sometimes with retro attires. A lot of golf saddles have a classic saddle appearance. They have advance features for comfort and support. Sporty or athletic saddle shoes now possess shock absorbing mid-soles and stabilizers. Sporty saddles even have superb toe-hold. This is another reason why they are known amongst golfers. Having a shoe with good toe-hold is important when playing golf, especially when swinging or putting.

If you want to rock and roll, you can try the fashion footwear that replaced the loafers. Saddle shoes, especially for the younger generation, are considered outstanding amongst all other American shoes.

Golf shoes should merit the same consideration as others areas of your golfing game because if your shoes do not fit your feet properly than all aspects of your game may suffer as a result.

Consideration must be given to the look, feel, fit, durability and quality of golf shoes, but, having acquired the perfect golf shoes a golfer should, then, do their upmost to preserve and extend the life of their purchase:

•Always tighten spikes before commencement of play.

•Always place golf shoes on a shoe tree whilst not in use. A shoe tree allows the shoes to dry naturally and helps them to maintain their shape.

•Remove shoes from car boot, golf bag, etc, when not in use; instead place in a well ventilated area away from artificial heat sources. Leaving shoes in an unventilated location can cause them to become brittle.

•Remove moisture from shoes with a towel and lean shoes toe down against a wall to dry naturally. For drenched golf footwear; scrunched up newspapers packed into the shoes will removed excess moisture.

•Remove dried mud and grass, from spikes, with a stiff brush.

•Remove dirt from leather or synthetic golf shoes with a mild detergent (soap) and water or with a specialist cleaning product after every round.

•Check cleats and spikes are tight and well seated into their respective receptacles.

•Use shoe polish to condition golf shoes and remove scuff marks.

•Buff shoes with clean dry cloth to promote a shine and to work polish further into the grain (leather shoes)

Using a shoe horn to put on golf shoes prevents damage to the heel area of golf shoes. Failing to utilise a shoe horn could cause heel distortion and a golfer’s, once, well fitted shoe heel could cause discomfort and blisters.

Buying two pairs of golf shoes may prove to be a sensible option for golfers that play on a regular basis because this allows the golf shoes (true for regular footwear also) to dry out properly and can extend the life of your golf shoes by three times the length of only one pair. Thus saving money in the long term and that, surely, makes it a sound investment.

Golfbuyitonline stock a huge range of golf shoes, from the top manufacturers, and the products that will keep your golf shoes in tiptop condition.

Etonic shoes have launched a golf shoe that boasts “trampoline action” insoles and “PowerPlay” outsoles. The shoe is designed to maximize traction and control and increase balance and power. This shoe is an example of a high-tech shoe. Flip it over and you will see lots of gadgets and fancy-looking features that look almost space-aged. Etonic claims that the shoe was inspired by PGA all-stars but that does not mean it is not for you! In fact, if you are a golfer who suffers from any kind of foot injury or deformity (plantar fasciitis, weak Achilles tendons, bunions, etc.), have weak knees or hips (which begin with your feet, of course!), or if you are a diabetic, have lymphedema or any other condition that makes you susceptible to injuries on your feet, then these kind of high-tech shoes may be worth the investment.

Golf is a great sport option for people whose feet are suffering: there may be a lot of walking but there is no jumping or hard-impact landings. Your knees, however, may suffer from the twisting that occurs with your side swing. This is why shoes with excellent traction and control are essential.

Let’s take a closer look at the PowerPlay outsole system. There are six main components to this system: Inside-Out Spike Placement, PowerSpike, PowerPod, PowerPlay Flex Zone, Dynamic Reaction Plate, Stabilizer Heel Technology.

Inside-Out Spike Placement. According to Etonic’s website, Etonic shoes with the PowerPlay system have spikes that “…are strategically positioned to both accept and transfer the forces generated during a golf swing.” This means that if you flip over your new pair of Etonic golfing shoes you will see spikes along the inside of the right outsole and along the outside of the left outsole. These spikes provide extra traction just in the places you need it so your shoes can comfortably grip the grass when you swing.

The PowerSpike is the name of the spikes on the bottom of an Etonic shoe. Each PowerSpike is structured with a central spike that is accompanied by eight supporting “legs.” The PowerPod is a support feature positioned under the arches of both feet; it is designed to maximize your traction and therefore your power. The PowerPlay Flex Zone is located across the ball of your foot. It enhances the flexibility of the outsole so it can bend in ways that accommodate the natural flexibility of the foot.

The Dynamic Reaction Plate is technically not on the outsole but located in the midsole. It is designed to prevent the foot from rolling outward – a common problem that occurs during the Backswing and Follow Through.

Last but not least! Stabilizer Heel Technology offers you a flared shoe that will increase stability (as its name suggests) and motion control.

I want to purchase my first set of golf clubs. I have not been golfing too many times but I am pretty athletic and a quick learner. I am not trying to be a pro but would like to have fun. I usually spend a little more than average on my sporting equipment because usually you can get better quality and if nothing else at least it makes you more confident. I want to spend around $1000.00 on clubs and I am wondering what else I should buy shoes, bag, glove, etc. I would also like to know the basics when it comes to club selection, offset, shaft length, stiffness, etc. Someone who could summerize for me would be great!!!

In 2010, pro golfers will be required to play newly mandated “competition” grooves in short irons and wedges (more specifically, in clubs with 25° or more of loft).

You might not realize it, but the rule change could affect your putter choice. Consider this: New conforming grooves generate less spin on shots from rough than current grooves do. Switching to a softer Tour ball might be one way for pros to regain some spin.

Odyssey’s brass is banking on this scenario. The firm’s new White Ice putters feature a firmer face insert (than the White Hot XG) to complement softer Tour balls. The multilayer face has the same outer material (thermoplastic elastomerurethane blend) as in the White Hot XG, while the inner material (a different thermoplastic elastomer compound) is twice as stiff. Bottom line: Putts sound louder (for a longer period) than they do with the White Hot XG but softer than with the Black Series putters. Ball speeds with White Ice are marginally faster than White Hot XG and comparable to the Black Series.

The 8-gram insert (it saves close to 60 grams versus steel) contributes to more weight low and rear, for improved roll. Five models (pictured) are in shops now, while additional flavors debut in February.

Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) is an American sporting goods company based in Carlsbad, California, specializing in golf. They manufacture a full range of golf equipment, including woods, irons, wedges, putters and golf balls, and also license the Callaway brand name for apparel, footwear, timepieces and accessories.
