Lyle Richards asked:

As an amateur or professional golfer you have always felt the need to have the proper accessories to play your game right. Apart from hours of training you have noticed that there is that something extra that can come from the right set of golf clubs or clothing which adds a whole new dimension to the way one plays the game.

One of the most overlooked piece of equipment is the all-important golf shoe. When one has to endure hours and hours of wet grass under the summer heat or the shivering cold of winter, one’s feet needs to get the maximum possible attention and comfort to keep you going. After all, it is the foot that supports the entire weight of the human body.

While buying golf shoes, keep in mind the material of the shoe, the styling, type, and other factors like presence or absence of spikes. Most golf shoes are made of any of three materials - polyester, leather or gortex.

Leather shoes provide you extra-proofing because of the water repellent nature of leather, apart from the waterproof coating offered by the shoe manufacturer. Leather shoes also have minute pores in them, so that the feet can literally breathe in summer when the feet tends get very hot and perspire a lot. They are ideally suited for playing golf and one of the best types you can buy.

If you facing a financial crisis and would like to go for a cheaper alternative nothing would be more befitting than polyester shoes. Then again, you should preferably go for those polyester shoes that have a non-porous lining.

Shoes made out of the Gortex material are tougher by nature and relatively more expensive than leather or polyester shoes. It is well suited for all types of weather conditions, preventing your feet from getting wet or stopping the formation of blisters.

There are basically three designs of golf shoe available to you. First among them is the classic golf shoe. But be sure to check out the weight and waterproofing of the shoe.

Next in line is the relatively inexpensive sandal. The sandal has the fringe benefits of being open on all sides and it is sure to fit your feet properly.

The boot golf shoe is least available and is not suited for most feet. It is more expensive, offers traction for bad weather and best suited for those golf courses that are infamous for their warmth and humidity.

There are shoes specially designed so that they do not damage the grass of the golf court. Again, you have to remember that these come at a high price.

Spikes make a whole lot of difference to your show wearing experience. The ones with soft spikes are most preferred by golfers, as they are not too hard on the grass and can be worn in the club area. The shoes with hard spikes provide better traction but they are generally less comfortable than most other golf shoes.

You should prioritize and be sure of what demands you’ll put on the shoe. Whether you will roam around the course in the shoes on your feet or travel mostly by your golf cart. Then and only then will you be able to select the right shoe.

The Sports HQ asked:

equipment - what you need to get started

Like any sport golf requires you to possess the correct equipment to play from golf clubs to accessories.

There are many brands and types of golf clubs including drivers, fairway woods, rescue clubs, irons and putters. Each type of golf club has a relevant purpose on the golf course; the driver for example is used from the tee for long distance shots, the irons are used for short approach shots – approaching the green and naturally the putter is used for finishing. Which golf club you choose and at which stage of the game is a combination of personal preference and experience.

A golf bag is used to transport and protect your clubs to and from the golf course and throughout the game. There are four main types of golf bag including carry, stand, trolley and light editions – which bag you select is usually down to both personal preference and requirements e.g. number of golf clubs or how you intend to transport the bag and clubs around the golf course. If you prefer to not use a golf trolley then a stand or carry bag is suitable. A number of golf bags offer protection for graphite shafts – whilst individual dividers prevent clubs from smashing into each other. All golf bags supply a number of storage pockets for the safe keeping of golfing accessories including golf balls, towels and valuables.

A head-cover is another item of golf equipment which can offer an excellent degree of protection for golf club heads including drivers, woods, hybrids and irons.

Golf shoes are a compulsory addition to any golfing outfit and are needed to provide additional grip when performing a shot. A high quality pair of golf shoes will offer breathability and waterproofing for optimal comfort in most playing conditions. Manufacturers have replaced metal spikes with plastic ones in recent times to prevent unnecessary damage to the course – the spikes also facilitate a golf swing, preventing a player from slipping when delivering a shot. When selecting a pair of golf shoes be sure to select a durable pair which can deliver maximum comfort when walking the full length of a golf course. If you do not feel comfortable with your golf shoes you are likely to lose concentration more quickly – which is non-conducive for inspiring confidence.

Golf tees are another necessary addition to a golfing outfit. Two types of tees are available to players either plastic or wooden ones. A golf ball is balanced on top of the tee to allow players to strike the ball from off the ground – typically used for a tee-shot.

A golf glove is another addition to a players golf outfit and is traditionally worn on the opposite hand – if you’re right-handed for example a glove is worn on the left-hand. During a swing a golf glove prevents the club from slipping through the hand by offering an additional level of grip. There are many different types of golf glove – each designed to worn snugly to the hand as though it was second layer of skin.

A golf trolley allows a player to push, pull or transport a set of golf clubs and bag across a golf course – eliminating the strain of carrying a heavy set of golf clubs and therefore maintaining the energy of the player for stronger, most accurate golf swings. An electric golf trolley allows a player to transport their golf clubs by aid of an electronic motor which is powered by a long-life battery.

These are fundamental items of equipment for playing golf which can be purchased from various online retailers including The Sports HQ. Historically, golf equipment was expensive to purchase before online retailers like The Sports HQ offered savings of up to 85% on factory direct golf equipment.

Bill Mcrea asked:

I started playing golf as a way to entertain clients and socialize with my business vendors. If you have decided to take up golf as a hobby you will be rewarded with the benefits of fresh air, exercise, and the addition of many new friends and acquaintances. You will also be humbled by the process of learning HOW to golf. Like any project you approach in life your attitude and expectations will determine your enjoyment of the game.

You will learn that the road to a low handicap is earned through countless bad shots, bunkers, water hazards and triple digit scores. You will invest a lot of time in practice. Welcome every hook, slice and 3 putt as a learning opportunity. Even the most horrendous mistake is a learning opportunity.

Golfing provides a rich opportunity to meet new people and provides you with opportunities for social interaction. You will get to meet new people in a setting in which you both have an avid interest, which makes for easy conversations. Golfing is also an excellent opportunity to meet like minded single people if you are looking for new people to meet.

How much golf equipment do you actually need? Golf is a very expensive game but there are affordable options. A high-end brand name set of clubs can set you back several thousand dollars but there are quality and affordable alternatives. Before buying clubs you should visit several golf stores and club pro shops. Test different types of clubs, determine which club length is best for you, get to know the different types of grips available and learn the difference between graphite and steel shafts. Take time to learn about the different types of golf balls, gloves, shoes and tees.

When you are choosing a golf bag you will first need to decide if you are going to walk the coarse or ride a cart. Golf bags are available in a range of materials make sure to choose one that is suited to your climate. Golf shoes are important; make sure they are comfortable and waterproof.

Should you take lessons from a golf professional? The answer to this question should be yes, but it depends on your budget. Golf lessons are expensive but will make learning the sport considerable more enjoyable, and you will be playing good golf in considerably less time. A more affordable alternative is to purchase one of the many training programs available by dvd. You can also use the internet as your open resource to learning more about the game without spending a lot of money,

Before you lift a club, you need the right attitude, and remember to remain positive, quiet your mind and remember it’s only a game. And game are supposed to be fun, so make golf fun and you can play for the rest of your life.

Max Johnson asked:

One of the most exciting things about golf is traveling to new courses, in which case a golf travel bag is an absolute necessity. It is always good to have a travel bag with which to protect your clubs when you are on the go. But this is never as true as when you are traveling by air to reach your destination. There are two types of travel bags for you to choose from to protect your clubs: hard and soft cover bags. However, do not forget your other gear. A golf trunk locker is an excellent way to store your goods whether you are home or away.

Let us first take a look at the hard cover golf travel bag. These products offer all the convenience of a soft cover bag (gentle to the clubs, plenty of storage, high quality fabric, etc.). Yet they also offer durable protection with a solid outer case. If you travel by air, this type of bag is one of the best purchases you can make. The zippered closures make your equipment easily accessible and they come with up to five different handles so that you can easily maneuver your way through the airport concourse. A hard travel bag is an excellent investment if you want to protect your clubs.

However, a soft golf travel cover is another excellent option for players looking for an easy way to get your golf clubs to and from yoru desitination. Most travel bags have room to store a whole cart bag inside and most are padded for extra protection, and will roll on two wheels so that you can easily maneuver the bag through a concourse or wherever you go.

But any experienced golfer knows that there is more to bring along than just the clubs. A golf travel bag is an essential, but it is also a very good idea to have proper storage of your other gear as well. With a trunk locker, you can easily organize, store, and protect your shoes, gloves, hats, shirts, and other golf apparel. A good trunk locker will be well organized with several storage divisions, zippers, and pocket compartments to allow you easy access and organization for all your gear. You can even store your shoes with a built in shoe closet for several pairs of golfing shoes. If you are golfing while you travel, what better way to be prepared for any type of course than to have your gear on hand and ready to go?

Golfing while you travel, whether on a business trip or a personal vacation, can be a truly great experience. A golf travel bag just allows you to ensure that all of your equipment is in perfect condition upon your arrival. Traveling with golf clubs can be easy if you have a soft or hard case travel bag, and a trunk locker brings the ease of home right along with you. If you plan to golf on the go, you will definitely want a golf travel bag to help you out.

ton tomlinson asked:

1. Spikes

While a lot of golfers love metal spikes on a shoe, they have the chance of rusting and must be taken care of diligently to prevent it. Also, they’re harder on the grass then other spikes. Rubber, ceramic, or carbide spikes can be pricier, but it’s worth it. A great option is a pair with removable spikes, because this makes them easier to clean as well as longer lasting, because you can replace the spikes before the shoes.

2. Material

The material of your shoes needs to be two things: Breathable, and waterproof. When you’re out on the course, running into wet grass is likely to happen sometime, and regular, non-waterproof shoes will get soggy and leave you feeling such.  However, it is equally important to have shoes that breath, as you’ll be walking a lot, possibly in the heat, and dry comfortable shoes make all the difference.

3. Fit

Just because you know your shoe size doesn’t necessarily mean you’re ready to buy your shoes. It is essential when buying golf shoes to try them on, and see how they fit. Ignore the shoe size, and pay more attention to how they feel on your feet.

4. Type of Shoe

Golf shoes come in all shapes, sizes and varieties. You can get normal golf shoes, golf sandals, or even the rare golf boots. Many golfers prefer the sandals to shoes because they’re still made for golfing, but they’re much cooler obviously and as long as you stay out of wet grass, comfortable.

5. Support

The sole and heel especially should give you plenty of support. This is important because when you’re positioning your golf stance, an uncomfortable or unsupported shoe can alter it and put off your game. Golf can be a precision sport, and golf attire can be a contributing factor.

6. Durability

Golf shoes aren’t cheap, and you’ll be using them in harsh elements, so make sure they’re durable. As said before, they need to be waterproof, but the material itself should also seem sturdy and strong. If you’re an adamant golfer, you mat want to invest in a few pairs to preserve your shoes longer.

7. Balance

It’s important to be able to feel secure on your feet. When trying on shoes, see how your balance is in them. Balance is a crucial part of golf and golf stance, so in addition to support and comfort ability pay close attention to this element as well.

8. Wardrobe, Style, and Brand

Last but not least, make sure your new shoes go well with the rest of your golf attire. Also, if you’re into brands then there are plenty of great golf name brands that make really nice shoes. Look up some reviews online and see what sort of golf shoe is popular if you’d like to be up with the recent style.

9. Ask Around

Even with all of this advice, the best review you can get is by asking fellow golfers and friends. A lot of golfers have a certain shoe or brand that they rely on, and may have a good recommendation for you. However, just because shoes work well with one person doesn’t mean they will with you- make sure to try on any shoes you plan to purchase and test them out for yourself.
